Start of The Premier League

The Premier League Arrives!

It only seems like yesterday since we saw France winning the World Cup! After a small break in the football, The Premier League is back!

The season kicks off with Manchester United hosting Leicester City. United have recently been trying, but failing, to swipe the Foxes’ World Cup hero, Harry Maguire. So this battle will be intriguing as the Red Devils look on to see who they could have had. United did not make much progress in the transfer window, much to Mourinho’s dismay, with his anger directed at the board due to lack of funds.

As we look further into the season, it will be interesting to see how the newly promoted teams do. Wolves already had Premier League calibre within the Championship, winning it comfortably. Now as the Premier League approaches, they have made a huge statement with the signing of players, such as Rui Patricio, João Moutinho and Dendoncker. It could be interesting to see if they can push for a top half finish, or maybe even a Europa League place. Fulham have retained their star players, wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon and captain Tom Cairney. They have also made useful additions to their squad; Andre Schurrle has returned to familiar West London surroundings, but located in Craven Cottage, rather than Stamford Bridge. Cardiff look to upset the odds with their direct style of play, disrupting well-polished, passing units. However, their new signings with a lack of top flight experience could be a downfall. It is no surprise that they are favourites to go straight back down. However, like we saw when Leicester won the Premier League, anything can happen!

The biggest opening game of the season will no doubt be Arsenal v Manchester City. Manchester City look strong favourites to retain the trophy, adding more ammunition to their attack with the acquisition of Riyad Mahrez. Arsenal may look optimistic with their new manager, Unai Emery. The new boss will bring a fresh new approach to the Gunners, which they have needed for a few years. Signings such as Torreira and Papastathopoulos have helped the cause and Arsenal fans will hope that this change will motivate the team to a title push.

How it works

Firstly, you are now able to see the newly added Videos tab, which allows you to see all kinds of clips that are available from official club YouTube channels. This should include all videos relating to players, the club, the season at large and much, much more.

Fans travel thousands of miles to follow their team in domestic pre-season friendlies

Posted by | App News, Features | No Comments

– Dedicated fans forced to travel thousands of miles to follow their team through domestic pre-season friendlies
– Exeter and Everton to travel over 2,000 miles through the pre-season period
– Many Premier League clubs no longer playing domestic friendlies, choosing lucrative overseas matches and hosting mini international tournaments instead

Motorway service stations, early morning trains and exhausting coach journeys are no strangers to the most dedicated of football fans. As pre-season friendlies get underway, our research reveals the lengths that football clubs are forcing fans to travel in order to watch their club prepare for the upcoming season. CrowdScores analysed every single pre-season fixture, totalling up the number of domestic miles fans would have to cover to follow their team around the UK.

Longest Distance Travelled Pre Season Friendlies Oldham Athletic Brighton Rotherham United Everton Exeter City

Exeter City fans will rack up a staggering 2514 miles.

For some of these truly dedicated fans, it will be an epic journey. Supporters of League Two Exeter City have the furthest to travel, an enormous 2,514 miles, equivalent to a return journey to Naples. The Devon club’s pre-season schedule sees the team playing away fixtures against Scottish teams East Fife and Arbroath as well as Weston Super Mare, Bodmin Town and AFC St Austell. Fans taking the train to all of these away fixtures would have to spend around £667 on fares, enough for a last-minute 14 night holiday in Orlando, Florida.

The single biggest distance any one club is travelling for a pre-season fixture is Brighton & Hove Albion. The Seagulls are travelling to Aberdeen to play a testimonial match for Jamie Langfield. As fans of one of the country’s most southerly clubs, any Seagulls supporters making the trip to the Pittodrie Stadium will have to cover over 1,000 miles to reach the home of one of the UK’s most northerly.

Not all clubs are travelling huge distances in pre-season, however. League One Burton Albion FC are travelling the shortest distance, covering just 26 miles with away friendlies against non-league Gresley FC and Mickleover Sports FC. Crystal Palace are bucking the Premier League trend, choosing to play the majority of the friendlies locally against the likes of Fulham and Dagenham & Redbridge, resulting in only 55 miles for their loyal followers to cover within the UK.

Burton Albion fans have it easy only having to travel a mere 26 miles.
